The Players Championship Begins

The Players Championship tees off this morning from the TPC Sawgrass. Henrik Stenson is the reigning champion and will try and defend his title in a field that features nine previous champions, including Tiger Woods. No player has ever won this event in consecutive years.

Pirates Clip Cubs

Ryan Church clubbed a go-ahead, two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning to lift the Pirates in a 3-2 win over the Cubs in the opener of a three-game set at PNC Park on Tuesday. Andy LaRoche added a solo homer for the Bucs, who snapped a three-game slide. Paul Maholm tossed six innings of two-run ball to pick up the win. Octavio Dotel worked a scoreless ninth to nail down his fourth save. Alfonso Soriano and Geovany Soto each blasted solo dingers for Chicago. Ryan Dempster allowed all three runs through seven frames to go along with seven stikeouts to suffer the tough-luck loss. The Northsiders had won their previous three games. Ted Lilly will toe the rubber against Charlie Morton in tonight's second installment.

Bulls Fire Del Negro

The Bulls fired head coach Vinny Del Negro after two seasons. Chicago went 41-and-41 and lost in the first round of the playoffs both years under Del Negro. General Manager Gar Forman said the move was not influenced by an altercation with Senior VP John Paxson March 30th.

Hawks Come Up Big Late In The Game...

Luke Bachtold with four doubles and three rbi's and Prairie Central knocked off Fieldcrest 9-8 in non conference play. Jeremy Peters pitched the last four innings in the game. Tanner Synder and Matt Gerrardo went deep for Fieldcrest.
